DNS Upgrade
By Smitch - CTO | November 29, 2007
Between 12th and 31st December 2008, Netnibble will be performing a major upgrade and enhancement program to our current DNS network.
DNS is a much under-discussed subject, but is actually an essential background mechanism to the way that the Internet works. Having multiple name-servers in geographically distant locations improves domain name look-up times, reduces load on any one name-server and, ultimately, causes customer web sites to start loading sooner. It also avoids issues if any one name-server cannot be reached for some reason.
Netnibble’s new DNS cluster has been designed to provide a truly global look-up service, with name servers being located in 3 locations in the USA (Atlanta Georgia, San Jose California, and Orlando Florida) along with further name-servers in Rotterdam (Holland), London UK, and Singapore.
Our new name-servers are linked to each other so that any change made at one name-server is replicated on all others within a few seconds.
The introduction of the new DNS cluster will take place gradually over a two week period to ensure that there is no break in service. For the great majority of Netnibble customers, no action will be required on your part. A few customers will be contacted direct in order to add additional name-servers to their current entries at domain registrars, so that they make take full advantage of this upgraded service.
If you have any questions please feel free to open a support ticket and we will be happy to discuss any concerns that you may have.
